On of the most troubling and frustrating things to see in any aspect of life, let alone a limb or joint, is deterioration of something that is good and beautiful that has transformed into something that is ugly and useless. That in a nutshell is what arthritis and joint inflammation does to you, it slowly deteriorates everything in its path, making it deformed, ugly, painful and virtually useless.

There are many different types of arthritis, close to 100, of different types and variations of this disease. The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis which tends to come on more with ageing and that’s where the cartilage, the smooth cartilage at the end of the bone that’s meant to be there as a shock absorber starts to break down and then the bone underneath breaks down – that’s when the real pain and suffering starts.

Although there are many ways to fight this progression, we will just concentrate on some things that make most dramatic and quick results. Mind you, there are no “magic bullets” or “quick-fixes” – everything presented here are just common sense, good practice advice and treatment that can substantially slow down arthritic progression to what we hope would be a pace much slower than without doing these treatments. So, here we go (not in any specific order).

Exercise:
As often as we hear it, we never take it seriously, but yet another benefit of regular exercise is a dramatic slowing down, and in rare cases even reversal of arthritic deterioration. Almost any exercise will be beneficial, but when it comes to arthritis, Tai Chi is the one most studied and it does have some unique properties in terms of balance and proper perception, sort of the joint knowing what position it’s meant to be in and toning the muscles around the joint. Certainly, aerobic exercise, jumping up and down and sometimes the heavy impact is good also although if someone is very overweight and they are doing heavy impact exercise, that might actually be harmful. But by and large you must find exercise programs that anyone can do, even if they have a painful joint. One of the most important advise when it comes to exercise is regularity, stick with it!

Omega 3 supplementation:
Much has been written about benefits of a good diet, but unfortunately making sure that the patient stays with the diet for any length of time is largely a psychological problem, rather than physical. So, regardless of the diet you currently subscribe to, one of the most beneficial “ingredience” in fight against arthritis has been the Omega-3 supplements as well as anything else that is rich in fish oil. The Omega 3 supplementation has been studied in randomized trials and can contribute to the reduction in the joint swelling and the joint pain quickly and painlessly. The supplements are readily available, relatively inexpensive and contribute no ill effects. Add this to your diet today.

Cherries:
Cherries have been receiving a lot of attention of late due to their beneficial effects on fighting and slowing down arthritis. According to arthritis researchers, cherries contain anti-inflammatory properties that may work even better than over-the-counter drugs. Researchers have largely focused their attention on tart cherry juice. According to studies, tart cherries contain something called anthocyanins that prevent free radical damage and inhibit cyclooxygenase enzymes better than some anti-inflammatory drugs that work as Cox inhibitors. Bottom line: Add cherries and cherry juice to your everyday dietary intake and reap benefits while enjoying awesome cherry taste.

Medicine:
The usual treatment for arthritis is through the use of painkillers. Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin can help relieve the pain of arthritis. But they only target the symptom and not the disease itself. Studies even show that the continual use of these NSAIDs may even cause joint deterioration thus making arthritis worse. Modern medicine does not have much to offer for the cure of this disease.

As we can see, the traditional temporary arthritis pain relief medications available leave a lot to be desired, largely because they are driven by short-term effects (to get you to buy quicker), rather than a long term benefit.

Massage therapy, hydrotherapy and cold packs are a few of the simple methods of pain management that may work just as well as drugs. Herbal remedies such as ginger, willow bark and the well-known cartilage constituents glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate are also promising a lot in revolutionizing the treatment of arthritis. Aside from the symptomatic relief they offer, they actually interfere with the origin of the disease. They are also being considered to help the body rebuild functioning joints. Fast acting,in cream form, they increase mobility and optimal repair of joint structures as they help reinforce the body’s protective linings and lubricating fluids by recovering cell stability and function to stop further damage.

In conclusion, although there are no instant cures, some common sense advice and foods work well, but only when used in early stages of arthritis. Therefore, it is very important to not only be vigilant of your body and joints, but also to seek proper medical attention and diagnosis early on. Once detected early, the approaches outlined here can minimize arthritic effects and provide you a long, bountiful life.

Many chronic pain patients may be under-treated as a result of doctors who are trying to gain control over pain killer addiction, it’s reported. Many other drugs can interact with the opioids and cause a variety of symptoms; this can be fatal. And physical dependence on a drug suggests that sudden stopping of the drug may result in negative consequences. These are all considerations to take into account today when prescribing or using pain killers.

Often people who are addicted to pain killers are plagued with various symptoms to various degrees; many times they don’t associate the symptoms they are having with the drug. If you think you’re addicted and want to get off pain killers or other drugs, it’s best to get detoxified as fast as you can and then go through some type of rehabilitation, this is crucial; it’s important to have others to lean on and learn from and offer support to you. When you’re addicted physically to a drug, like pain killers or alcohol, etc., it’s because you’ve unknowingly suppressed or shut down your body’s production of endorphins, which are natural opiate pain killers; when this happens you start craving the drug that you replaced the endorphins with whether it’s alcohol, any of a number of drugs, medications or pain killers.

A person usually exhibits compulsive behavior to satisfy their craving for a pain killer or pain medication even when there are negative consequences associated with taking the pain killer or drug. Opioids used as the doctor has prescribed are supposedly not dangerous according to some well-established medical groups; but if that’s the case, why are so many people addicted to them? Addiction is a biological and psychological condition.

Less common side effects and adverse reactions of pain killers are: confusion, hallucinations, delirium, hives, itching, hypothermia, bradycardia (slow heart rate), tachycardia (rapid heart rate), raised intracranial pressure, ureteric or biliary spasm, muscle rigidity and flushing to name a few. Chronic pain affects one out of four adults; millions of people suffer from severe disabling pain. Treatment options for pain killer addiction include: medications, such as methadone and LAAM (levo-alpha-acetyl-methadol), and behavioral counseling; usually, the patient is medically detoxified before a treatment approach is begun.

Pain killer addiction includes these: opiate dependency, opiate addiction, narcotic dependency, narcotic addiction, and pain killer dependency or painkiller dependency. More common side effects and adverse reactions of pain killers are: nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dry mouth, miosis (contraction of the pupil), orthostatic hypotension (blood pressure drops upon sudden standing) – often happens when arising too fast when getting out of bed in the morning, urinary retention, constipation and fecal impaction. Many side effects and adverse reactions that can occur with the use of opioids as pain killers.

It’s important to get help and not try getting off pain killers on your own. It is important to go through rehab following your detox stay: make it a part of your plan of action. You absolutely must make plans to leave the routine responsibilities of your life for a week or two or suffer the inevitable outcome and bad health effects of prolonged drug addiction.

All other demands of children, job, school, or any other responsibilities may make inpatient treatment seem like an intrusion but it’s not. The longer you wait to get treatment the worse it will get; so take action now. Taking the time to spend in a treatment center, detoxing, is of the utmost priority for you.

What should people, and patients with chronic pain problems or conditions, do to avoid the possibility of addiction is a puzzling question. The body’s natural pain killers, endorphins, have been replaced by these pain killing drugs; get them flowing again with lots of laughter and other natural approaches. The effort to reduce pain medication abuse is causing serious problems for patients who legitimately need these drugs.

The practice of reflexology is meant to bring your body to a state of well-being. Only in this state is your body able to heal itself and perform at an optimal level. If your body is full of toxins, your immune system is severely compromised, making you much more likely to succumb to sickness and disease.

Once you have made the decision to visit a trained reflexologist, you may be wondering what you can expect from him or her. You may also be asking yourself, what if I am embarrassed about my feet, or my feet are ticklish, how will I be able to handle the therapy? All of these are good questions.

Don’t worry about how your feet look. All feet are different and there is nothing to be ashamed about. The only possible thing that might come up in direct relation to the appearance of your feet may be if you have a severe problem with corns or the like. In this case, your reflexologist may recommend treatment options.

Ticklish feet are not usually a problem for a reflexologist. Once pressure is applied, the sensation will quickly turn from a tickle to massage and you should be ok. Very, and I mean very few people that claim to have ticklish feet are unable to go through with the therapy.

Your therapy session will begin with a questionnaire or one on one question and answer session. This is, of course to get your personal history and determine where your therapy should be most concentrated. For example, if you are going in suffering from frequent migraines and neck pain, your reflexologist will concentrate on the areas of the feet and sometimes the hands, in areas that deal with the head and neck. Of course, you will be treated in all areas of the feet. In order to bring your body to a state of well-being, you must detoxify your organs and this is exactly what happens during reflexology therapy. Although reflexology is proven to be beneficial for a multitude of problems, your reflexologist cannot diagnose or claim to cure any diseases. They are not medically trained to do so.

After the initial interview, your ears, feet and hands will probably be thoroughly looked over for discolorations and tender spots. According to the theories reflexology stems from, these things can be warning signs that correlating body parts are not functioning as they should.

At this point the therapy will begin. It will usually start with rubbing of the ears, hands or feet and then will turn into pressing. It closely mimics acupuncture, but without needles. By pressing in certain areas of the feet, hands and even the ears, the brain will send signals and release neurochemicals to stop pain and relieve tension.

Probably one of the biggest expectations is relaxation. It is true that you will become very relaxed during the therapy. It is one of the single most powerful ways to relax and eliminate stress in your body. Once you try it you will be a believer.

Stress in school is a big topic these days. Are you a student suffering from stress? If this is the case, then this article is for you.

As students are being asked to do more, there is a pressure to handle more and more tasks. That pressure can lead to undue stress. Just as their parents suffer from stress in the workplace and at home, students also suffer stress from work, social contacts and family strife. What can students do in order to reduce the deleterious effects of stress in their daily lives?

Students can help to reduce the likelihood of stress occurring by following these simple rules:

Know your learning style; are you a visual learner, or a kinesthetic or auditory learner? Adjust your study habits so that you are accommodating your learning style.

Create a study friendly environment in your room or other place where you normally study. Make use of aromatherapy, soothing music and keep distractions away.

Learn to manage your time by staying organized and on schedule. Use a day planner, or electronic calendar to keep track of due dates and special assignments. Plan study times throughout the week.

Visualize yourself achieving your school goals. Take a few moments each day to make a mental image of how you will look and feel when you achieve a certain school goal.

Develop positive habits. Learn how to think in positive terms about self-image. Learn how to accept failure as a learning tool that will increase your likelihood of future success.

What other measures can you take? Remember that sleep is your friend; do not cheat yourself of something that is beneficial to your well being. Planning study time and sticking to your plan will leave you the required time to sleep. Those individuals who are sleep-deprived have more trouble learning facts, and have difficulty remembering them. Those who do not get enough sleep, perform poorly. If possible, take afternoon naps to help you stay fresh and alert especially when dealing with extra assignments or a heavy schedule.

Stress that is chronic can actually affect your ability to learn and to remember facts. Learning how to manage stress is an important school tool. Learn and practice good study skills right from the start. If you are prepared for class, you will not be as stressed as someone who is unprepared.

Stress is dissipated if you share your duties with friends. Take advantage of any mentoring, tutoring or study groups offered by your school. Ask friends to study together or compare notes from class. Make sure study groups do not turn into parties. Leave the fun and games for celebrating after the grades are won.

You need physical activity, healthy meals and snacks and plenty of sleep in order to do well in school. When you lack in any of these areas, you can become stressed. Make sure you are exercising on a regular basis, are eating the proper amounts of fruits, vegetables and dairy for your age groups, and get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep each night.

Shiatsu is an excellent pain reliever for many health conditions such as stress related disorders, endometriosis, menopause (and accompanying symptoms), and constipation. Shiatsu can decrease both the level of fatigue (or tsubo) and stress that has built up in the human body. Shiatsu can improve the circulation of both lymph and blood systems. Shiatsu helps to decrease the stiffness of muscles and joints as it lowers blood pressure. Shiatsu also helps to improve a person’s level of energy (or qi), vitality and stamina.

When you decide to begin practicing shiatsu, always dress in loosely-fitting, comfortable clothing that is made of natural as opposed to synthetic fibers. Doing this helps to encourage the flow of positive energy in the body or what is referred to as “ki.” Always make sure you practice shiatsu in a room that has plenty of empty space and is uncluttered, clean and very neat. Also make sure the room you practice in is warm and quiet. If you do not do these things then it can have a negative impact on the flow of energy.

The practitioner of shiatsu should lie on the floor for treatment. It is recommended that the person lie on a futon (which is also a quilted form of a Japanese mattress) or else a floor mat. If the patient needs them, pillows and/or cushions can make them even more comfortable.

It is always important to be as comfortable as possible when you are having a shiatsu treatment. Shiatsu is not good to have after a large meal. A lightly-loaded stomach is important for both the receiver and the giver of shiatsu treatment as well. It is best to wait a number of hours after a large meal to have shiatsu or to perform it on another person.

Shiatsu is not recommended for those who have varicose veins. If one does have this problem, one should make sure that no undue pressure is exerted on the sore and swollen veins. In turn no shiatsu pressure should ever be applied to injuries or traumas to the body such as cuts, tears, bruises or breaks in muscles or bones.

Shiatsu is perfectly safe for women who are pregnant. There are four areas, however that should be avoided for pregnant women: the stomach, the legs from the knees and down to the feet, the area at the left and right side of the neck where the shoulder begins and the fleshy area of the skin that is a web like and is located between the thumb and the index finger. It is important to tell the shiatsu practitioner that you are pregnant or that you could be pregnant. It is always important that a pregnant woman about to engage in a shiatsu treatment be both relaxed and as calm as possible.

Shiatsu is a generally safe practice but it should not be performed on everyone. Individuals who suffer from serious health diseases such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and heart disorder should not engage in shiatsu. In some cases an experienced shiatsu practitioner can work on a person with a serious disease but only if he or she has been apprized of the person’s health situation and their prognosis.

Where conventional medicine has failed, natural medicine can make a real difference. This is true of herbal medicine, meditation, and massage. This article deals with how reflexology is helping to alleviate symptoms and improve one’s overall health.

Far Eastern cultures have been using alternative treatments for thousands of years. In most places of the world, natural medicine is the first line of defense against sickness and disease. Even the most technically advanced countries such as China and Japan appreciate the effectiveness and simplicity of natural medicine. We could benefit from the knowledge that has been gathered by those cultures. Where conventional medicine has failed, natural medicine can make a real difference.

Natural medicine and alternative treatments has become a booming industry. Our society has become interested in how to help cure us from common problems such as allergies, depression and anxiety. With so many products claiming to be the next miracle cure, how do you really know what kind of alternative therapy to use? Maybe it is time to give reflexology a try.

If you are unfamiliar with reflexology, here are the basics:

Reflexology is the practice of applying pressure in a strategic manner to areas of the feet and hands, and the face and ears. Reflexologists see the hands and feet as a portal to the body’s systems. Each section of the feet and hands correlate to a specific organ. By stimulating nerves on specific areas of the feet and hands, you can stimulate blood flow and eliminate toxin buildup in the corresponding organs and systems of the body.

Although reflexologists cannot diagnose or claim to cure a sickness or disease, it is one of the most sought-after treatments today. Not only is it beneficial as a tool for relaxation and stress relief, but it is also an effective tool for improving circulation; relieving pain, and as an immune and nervous system stimulator. Many with illnesses such as allergies; chronic sinus problems; acid reflux; migraines; PMS; menopause; insomnia; fertility problems and even arthritis have been helped tremendously by reflexology treatments.

What do you do if you don’t like the idea of others touching your feet? What if you can’t afford sessions with a reflexologist? You can opt to learn basic reflexology yourself. I prefer this method not only because it is free, but also because it is convenient. If you want to dig in and learn the basics, there are many online reflexology courses you can take. Moreover, many adult education programs offer weekend reflexology programs. Check with your local school district to find a class near you. Although these weekend seminars will not authorize you to claim yourself as a reflexologist, you will learn enough to effectively treat yourself and your family.

The bottom line is that reflexology has proved to be a therapy that is beneficial for everyone. It is the perfect complimentary medicine whether or not you must take prescription drugs or not. Once you try it you will understand why reflexology has found a permanent place in the health industry.

Wellbutrin, also known by its scientific name Bupropion, is a very popular antidepressant. It inhibits the reuptake of both dopamine and norepinephrine. If you have never used Wellbutrin before, you need to familiarize yourself with the drug interactions and the side effects associated with it.

Wellbutrin is metabolized by the liver. In lab experiments performed with rats, the drug was found to cause hepatocellular hypertrophy when administed in high doses (hypertrophy is an increase in the size of the cells). Common side effects include agitation, dizziness, hypertension, dry mouth, tremors, anxiety, loss of appetite, headache, excessive sweating, increased risk of seizure, and insomnia.

Although with the recommended dosing of the drug the probability that a seizure will occur is extremely small, patients using it should still be screened for any health factors that could contribute to or increase the likelihood of a seizure. A doctor may also review other prescriptions the patient might be taking and recommend an appropriate dosage based on that information.

Also, suicidal thoughts and attempts have been reported in children and adolescents. Bupropion has been shown to increase the incidence of suicidal thoughts amongst children and adolescents. When treating major depression in this group of patients, clinical benefits should be weighed carefully against the potential hazards. Usually, Bupropion is not intended for patients under the age of 18.

Another potential side effect is an improvement in sexual function. Bupropion, unlike serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as Prozac, does not appear to reduce the libido of the patient, and more frequently enhances sexual desire. Patients who complain of an impairment in their sex drive as a result of their SSRI have sometimes been prescribed small doses of Wellbutrin to correct it.

One controversy associated with Bupropion is its propensity to lower the seizure threshold. In combination with other medicines, it has been suspected to cause seizures in some patients who have never had a seizure before.[12] While this is not common, an increase in the number of such cases around the globe probably merits further discussion and investigation.

It is not uncommon for patients to receive treatment with other antidepressant prescriptions in combination with Wellbutrin. For this reason, a doctor should be careful when prescribing it with other medications prone to lowering the seizure threshold. Bupropion has also been known to produce seizures in combination with non-illegal drugs such as cocaine and recreational drugs such as alcohol.

I hope you have found this information helpful. Be sure to disclose to your physician any other drugs you might be taking before requesting a prescrtiption for Wellbutrin. Although some of the side effects and drug interactions we have covered are rare, they can happen unexpectedly to even the most healthy individuals.

It’s important to recognise the impact that bad breath can have on your life. It can be one of the most embarrassing personal hygiene problems to afflict us, especially when it’s pointed out by someone else. And, for most of us, bad breath is likely to be the result of poor dental hygiene.

Here are four simple actions, you can easily take, to make the difference.

1. Brush Your Teeth Regularly and Well

The first tip to relieve bad breath is a bit of a no-brainer. Regular teeth brushing makes a big difference. It’s vital to brush your teeth at least twice daily to avoid the accumulation of food debris. And plaque, even more of a problem, is avoided as well, which is much more difficult to notice much of the time.

By regularly brushing the teeth, any nasty plaque gets dislodged and fails to build up. But if you only brush once a day, or miss occasionally, you will find that it builds up and is a lot more difficult to shift.

This is a really important message for those who suffer from bad breath. Your teeth may look and even feel clean, but unless you brush your teeth regularly, it’s the plaque build up that will leave your breath unpleasant.

When brushing your teeth, don’t forget your tongue. According to many studies, your tongue harbors bacteria that may cause bad breath.

2. Floss It!

You can do more than brush your teeth! Sometimes it’s difficult to dislodge every bit of food that gets stuck, so getting it out is important, if you want to see the back of bad breath completely.

There are all sorts of weird gizmos and tools out there to do the flossing, yet it need not be that complicated. As a preference, you might find a straightforward non-shredding floss, on a long, long (25 meter – a lot of floss) roll which will last you for ages.

Remember to floss before you brush, so that the newly dislodged bits between your teeth will be finished off by the brushing.

3. Visit Your Dentist Regularly

Dental hygiene, to improve your bad breath, can be maintained easily by ensuring that you see your dentist regularly. It’s usual to have checkups every 6 months or so and dentists being as they are, will often call you or write to remind you. It’s their living, after all!

There’s a whole lot of hot air about the value of seeing a dentist. Suffice to say it’s always good value, because prevention is a lot cheaper than paying for real emergencies.

Bottom line is that many of the issues that cause bad breath will build up and cause significant problems before long. That will put the cost up too, if you don’t make that visit every half year or so and pay the bill. It’s an investment worth making!

Remember, in most countries there are defined dental insurance programs available so that you can spread the cost, or at least keep a lid on it, so that might well be an investment that is worthwhile.

4. Chew Gum

It might have been a gimmick by marketing people to start with, but there have now been a number of studies to show the value of chewing gum in maintaining your dental health during the day.

Apart from the minty freshness that will help to mask bad breath, that’s not the point.

In fact, the capability for chewing gum to keep your mouth clean by stimulating saliva flow, as a natural oral cleanser, as well as dislodging stuck bits of food is now well proven.

So, there you go. there are four easy dental health tips to ensure that any bad breath you might have had in the past is banished forever.

It wasn’t that painful now, was it?

What happens when you need medical treatment that is not covered under health insurance? Many times, people do not have adequate medial insurance coverage to take care of medically necessary procedures. Often medical treatment is needed immediately to have any chance of success, so it really isn’t viable to try to save up the money for treatment. When you can’t afford medical treatment that you need, and there isn’t an acceptable alternative treatment, getting a medical loan might be your best option.

There are a number of lenders who are willing to make loans for both medically necessary and elective medical procedures. Medical loans are funds that are advanced to a person for the specific purpose of being used for medical treatment. They are typically unsecured loans that are basted on creditworthiness. The interest rate usually reflects the going rate in the market. Additionally, many medical loans have a built-in grace period, allowing patient recovery time before repayment is required to begin.

Medical loans are often the only hope for getting needed medical treatment for those who either don’t have health insurance or do not have the funds available to pay their deductible. People with chronic illnesses often need medical loans to be able to continue treatment once their coverage is depleted.

Many people seek medical loans for elective medical procedures as well. As a rule, health insurance will not pay for any type of treatment considered to be medically unnecessary. For example, procedures such as liposuction, gastric bypass, dental cosmetic surgery, cosmetic surgery, breast enhancement, breast reduction, and other similar procedures are typically not covered by health insurance.

These types of medical procedures that are in most cases required for mental satisfaction rather than physical well-being. While no doctor would recommend these procedures as a must-have for a healthy life in most cases, most are of the opinion that such procedures can improve the morale of the person to a great extent. Hence, from a psychological point of view, such procedures do improve the quality of life of the patient.

Many special clinics have been set up with the specific purpose of providing elective medical procedures services to people who want or need them. These clinics, knowing full well that such procedures are not likely to be covered by patients’ health insurance, often provide resources for medical loans to their patients. This enables patients to find a way to afford the services they desire without having to research funding options on their own.

Do you have pulmonary hypertension? This medical disorder, which is more serious in some patients than for others, occurs when blood pressure increases in the pulmonary artery to the point where blood flow to the lungs is restricted and the heart becomes overworked.

This, in turn, results in a myriad of unpleasant symptoms ranging from lightheadedness and dizziness to fainting spells and shortness of breath or breathing difficulties, and is marked by a dramatically reduced physical activity and exercise tolerance.

Although there are many different types (venous, hypoxic, arterial, thromboembolic, or primary) as well as specific causes (ranging from pulmonary embolism, heart disorders, and autoimmune disorders to genetics and the use of certain weight-loss pills) of pulmonary hypertension, the condition known as primary pulmonary hypertension, or PPH, refers to pulmonary hypertension with a cause that is unknown or unproven in nature.

However, one specific cause that has often been linked to primary pulmonary hypertension is the use of Fen-Phen, a popular weight-loss and anti-obesity pill until the FDA took it off the market in 1997 after more and more reports surfaced, linking its use to the potential development of primary pulmonary hypertension.

Effective PPH treatment is essential if you have primary pulmonary hypertension, no matter why or how you developed this disorder. Flolan, a vasodilator FDA-approved drug as well as a natural form of prostacyclin produced by Glaxo Wellcome, Inc., is one of the more common choices for PPH treatment for a number of reasons. It works by relaxing the lungs’ blood vessels, slowing down the production of cell growth and scar tissue there, preventing the vessels from narrowing, and increasing oxygen in the blood.

Patients who take this treatment notice an improvement in their level of physical activity and exercise, and it may prolong their lives. This treatment is also considered an alternative to having a lung transplant. Finally, because it is a natural form of PPH treatment, Flolan is often preferred over other types of PPH treatment.

However, it is not taken as an oral tablet to treat primary pulmonary hypertension; it is actually quite a bit more complicated than that. Instead, the body receives it intravenously via a catheter through a vein in the chest leading to the heart.

The drug is then pumped into the patient’s system slowly but continuously through a battery-operated pump generally carried inside a little shoulder pack or worn on the belt. In addition, Flolan is natural and therefore has a short shelf life, meaning it must be mixed daily as well as refrigerated. The fact that it is generally considered to be inconvenient for some to use is one of the drug’s biggest complaints.

However, because it is a natural, biological substance and agent, using this treatment has fewer and less serious side-effects than other types of PPH treatment, such as Tracleer. The most common side-effects associated with Flolan include headaches, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, jaw pain, and flushing. Very rarely do infections occur within the catheter, but when they do occur, hospitalization and replacement may be necessary.

It is often compared to other types of PPH treatment and drugs used for primary pulmonary hypertension, the most common of which are Remodulin and Tracleer. Flolan and Remodulin are quite similar in a number of ways (how they work and side-effects), but while Remodulin lasts longer than Flolan and does not need to be mixed or refrigerated daily, the location of the injection (abdominal area) must be changed often, and significant pain can develop in the injection area.

Tracleer is considered much more convenient to take than Flolan because Tracleer is taken orally as a tablet; however, it does have more and more serious side-effects, particularly related to the liver.

If Flolan treatment sounds like something that would work well for you in your lifestyle and situation and for treating your primary pulmonary hypertension, talk to your doctor about taking it to find out if it’s right for you. Keep in mind that it does require a prescription.

If you have personally used Fen-Phen as a drug to help you lose weight (particularly substantial amounts of weight) in the past and you now suffer from primary pulmonary hypertension and require PPH treatment, there could very well be a link between the two. Did you know that law firms specializing in cases like these can help you? Contact an established law firm that specializes in helping patients who have used Fen-Phen diet pills and now may have primary pulmonary hypertension or other medical condition or complication as a result.
